Good morning, friends, and I hope it finds you well. This week I offer the first of what I hope won’t be too many excuses, but it was just too much for me to get a post ready for this week. You see, on April 22nd my wife of fifty years had knee replacement surgery. This is supposed to be a pretty routine operation, almost an outpatient procedure. Because of her age they kept her until Friday, the 24th, and sent her home in a medical transport.
Without going into too much detail, she was sent home too soon. Her pain kept becoming worse until by this last Monday, the 4th, she couldn’t bear to be touched or to move. We called 911, and a bunch of firefighters were able to get her up and into a sort of hammock with handles and get her onto a gurney and into the ambulance, and she was taken to the local hospital emergency room. We spent most of the day with her there before she was admitted. Yesterday, again, we were with her most of the day, and probably will be again today.
She is mending quickly, and nothing is life-threatening. She was apparently bleeding into the site of the replacement. They removed a large syringe of fluid from the joint and began antibiotics to counter a low-grade infection. She will need a period of rehab to get back on track, and likely today or tomorrow she will be discharged to a skilled nursing facility whose job it will be to continue her meds and get her to a condition where our daughter and I can care for her at home. It’s going to be a road, but now that we have a map, I can probably get creative again and begin producing copy. So, wish us luck and say a prayer if you’re into that, and hopefully, Bonnie will be back home and cooling out before we know it. See you next week!
